Default Windows 7: Problem Steps Recorder

If you're trying to describe the interactive steps involved in an issue you want help with, and happen to be running Windows 7, you might want to try the Problem Steps Recorder to automatically document your actions and their consequences. The file produced could then be submitted with your post and viewed in Internet Explorer (Chrome and Firefox don't seem to handle MHTML just yet).

In the search box (or Windows+R 'Run' window) type 'psr' and hit enter. Then press Start Record and record your actions. At any point you can highlight an area of the screen and make notes by pressing Add Comment on the PSR application. Press Stop Record when you're finished and save your pre-zipped MHTML file at the prompt.

If your desktop has two screens open it will record both screen snapshots as one big screen so the size of this file can be reduced by having only one screen and reducing the resolution if for example you want to show a lot of steps. Also, because it captures the whole desktop, you might want to make sure no sensitive information is captured and then shared inadvertently.
