Problem finding Flexsim model files using Windows 7

Greetings!

I hope someone can explain to me how to access my files under Windows 7. I loaded Flexsim onto a new laptop running Windows 7. Within Flexsim, I can open and save model files in my userprojects directory with no problems.

When I open Windows Explorer, I can't see the files in the \Program Files (x86) \Flexsim4\userprojects directory. This only happens with new files that were named and saved (using Save Model As) using Flexsim on the new laptop.

Anyone have an idea as to why I can't see the files using Windows Explorer?

When opening a model in Flexsim, the icon beside the file name has a little padlock in the lower left corner of the icon. The .fsm! file has the same little padlock on its file icon.

This is caused by the new security features in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

By default you don't have permission to write to the "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" directories, so when an application (Flexsim) tries to write there, it actually writes the file to your user directory in a hidden folder called Virtual Store.

The Open/Save dialog boxes see both sets of files (the files in virtual store and the files that are actually in the directory), but Windows Explorer by default only shows you the files that are actually there. There should be a "Compatibility Files" button at the top that takes you to the Virtual Store directory so you can see your files.

This is the reason that I always advise people to install flexsim not in the program files but in different directory for instance directly under C:\ if you are using vista or windows 7. See also this thread:
