Modeling CT with Crane Allocation Barrier
Hi
I was asked today about the Crane Allocation Barrier, I hope someone help me. Assume that the length of the berth is 500 m and we have 2 cranes at the berths. There is a crane barrier at 250 m. If the ship is 308 m long, and berth position of the ship is at 50 m. Under this arrangement, by right both cranes should be able to work at the same time. However I only the first cranes is operating in the model. So the question is "Does the physical position of the ship in relation with the barrier allocation" affect the loading and unloading time of the operation. Please advise

The allocation barrier cannot split the ship into two areas. The crane assignment mechanism takes only the left position of the ship (50 m) to define the crane assignment area to which the ship belongs.

How would you suggest to model such a scenario? That is given the following information: 1. Berth Length: 500 m 2. 2 Cranes. One crane operation from 0 to 250 m and another operate from 280 m onward. That is the 2nd crane could only operate with vessel that is long enough. Thanks David

The easiest way would be to constrain then number of cranes that can be assigned to those shorter ships by specifying their maximum allocations as 1 in the ship schedule.
