Relative filepath for AC3D texture
Exporting .WRL files with a texture (photo) works well on my pc but I can't use the files on any other pc because the link to the photo breaks. The object needs the original photo for the texture, which is fine because I can just include it; however the path to the texture is absolute so is only relevant to my pc.
Is there any way to either glue the texture to the .WRL object, so I don't need the photo, or change the absolute path to a relative path? Thanks Kenny Last edited by Kenny Macleod; 06-09-2010 at 05:55 PM. Reason: formatting issues |

Hi,
You can open the .WRL in a text editor and then you can either remove the path or change it. This need to do in several places in the file. Look at a line that looks like this: Texture2 { filename "GUYFACE.BMP" } Lars-Olof |

Hi Kenny,
If you always export your .WRL files from AC3D to the folder where the texture is saved then you should not have any issues with paths at all, as long as when you move computers you keep them in a folder together. Thanks, Mark |

Thanks Mark - that worked.
I had the photos organised in a sub directory. Once i put them up into the same directory the path vanashed completely - that'll do nicely. Kenny |

Kenny
You can link relativley so you can move the directories between PC's I would suggest organising your models into a fixed structure and then make the links relative so you can drop them onto any PC. Mike |

Thanks Mike - ironically it was the use of relative paths that caused the problem in the first place.
As you suggest, I use dedicated directories in my models but couldn't find a way for AC3D to work with them. The key problem was to get a relative path into the 3D object, rather than link to it from within Flexsim. Cheers Kenny |
