Default Local to Network License

Could anyone help jog my memory

I have a network license which I have been using locally for some time now and want to switch back but I can not remember how to set it up. All I can remember is you need a .txt file called "network" somewhere (well you did when it was first set up in version 3.0). I am now on version 4.52 if that has any effect.

Cheers

Hi,

If you not already have installed Hasp License Manager, do that first.
On the machine you want use the network license, you should go to
Flexsim4 -> Flexsim License Activation and choose Network under License Type.

Hope this helps you.

Cheers, do I not need the text file anymore with version 4.52. How do I tell it where to look for the hasp key?

Hi,

When you choose Network the file network.txt will be created.
What you may need to have a file called nethasp.ini.

The nethasp.ini I use looks like this:
Code:
[NH_COMMON]
NH_TCPIP = Enabled
[NH_TCPIP]
NH_TCPIP_METHOD = UDP
NH_USE_BROADCAST = Disabled
NH_SERVER_ADDR = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP-address to your server or you use the name of the server.
Put the nethasp.ini in the same directory as Flexsim.exe (Flexsim4\program).

There's a first for everything and it's usually me..... I should have had a proper look first but I have just found Cliff's installation file and it's all pretty straight forward (common sense just passed me by).

Thanks for the advice, all I need now is for IT to do their bit..........

Question

HELP!

I've been through Cliff's installation method following it to the letter and I'm still getting error code 15. I've put the .ini file in the program directory with the server's ip adress. We do have BlackIce on the network but due to our systems the local IT department have no control over the registration of sotware with it and it can not be stopped on individual machines (corporate policy).

Is there anything else I can try to solve the situation???????????

Hi Alistair,

What you can try to do is set NH_SESSION to a higher value the 2.
NH_SESSION controls how long Flexsim tries to find the license manager before giving an error.
Standard value for NH_SESSION is 2 seconds.

What I really think is that you must open up port 475 in your firewalls, both for TCP and UDP.
You may need to do it both on the server and on the machine you run Flexsim.
If port 475 is closed, the you will also receive the error 15.
Error 15 tells you that no license server or hardware key is found.

Hi Alistair,

If your company us using Microsoft Firewall you should do this:
  1. Open Contral Panel
  2. Choose Windows Firewall
  3. Under the Exceptions click Add Port
  4. Give the Exception a name and for example FlexsimTCP and in Port
    Number write 475.
  5. Do 4 both for TCP and UDP.
If you are using different firewall then you need check with the documentation for that firewall
to see how to add the port.

My guess is that you need have your IT department to open the port for you.

Lars-Olof

Just spoken to the IT department, and there is no firewall between my pc and the server. How do I change the NH_SESSION value?

Add this line to your nethasp.ini
NH_SESSION=5

NH_SESSION should be under the TCP_IP section.

Example:
Code:
[NH_COMMON]
NH_TCPIP = Enabled
[NH_TCPIP]
NH_TCPIP_METHOD = UDP
NH_USE_BROADCAST = Disabled
NH_SERVER_ADDR = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
NH_SESSION=5
You may need to try a higher value of NH_SESSION.

Try this:
  1. Write cmd under Start->Run
  2. In the command window that open write this:
    telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 475
    where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the name or ip number to the license server
  3. If everything works as it should you will get a blank screen
  4. Ctrl-C to exit the test.
  5. Close the window
Did you get a blank screen.

Are you running Flexsim on the same machine as the license server?

Hi Alistair,

What was the solution?

It is good to know what did the trick if someone else get the same problem.

Increasing the NH_SESSION time to 5 did the trick as the telnet of port 475 returned the blank screen.

I did think of reducing the time till it stopped working but I thought that was just pushing my luck somewhat as it had taken me so long to get working I didn't want to ruin it all by doing something stupid.

Thanks again.

Alistair

Hi Alistair,

Why I asked you to do the telnet was to see if you could connect to the licenses server form your computer
and also see if the server was up and running.
If telnet could not connect to the server, telnet had generated an error.
But know the licenses server was up and running and you get a blank screen.

A tip for anyone that get error 15, do a telnet to see if you can connect and see if the server is up and running.

Glad I could help you Alistair.

Lars-Olof
