hope someone to make a video tutorial about GUI
The GUI is a great tool in flexsim, but the document about it is poor. I still cannot figure out it. Will someone make a video tutorial to demostrate how to make a GUI like those in the X_model in the download area.
Thanks very much. |

Good to know this. Personally, I think the GUI documentation needs to be improved. It is hard to figure out how to use different types of graph controls. Most time, I can only try right click->view->explore structure of GUI windows.

We are working on improving the GUI documentation for the next release, but let me also point out that there are two sections in the current help that talk about GUIs and some people are not finding both sections. The one is in Modeling Tools>Graphical User Interfaces, and the other section is in Miscellaneous Concepts>View Attributes Reference.

Flexsim has something much better than GUI documentation we have a whole library of GUIs that you can go and pirate! In the tree view go to the "View" view (click on "View" in the bottom left corner) and then go into the "standardviews" node. All of the GUIs that are used in Flexsim can usually be found somewhere in this node. Find what you want and then steal it from us! Heck, thats what we do.
It will be nice when the documentation is a little better but I will say that GUIs are like Auto-Build models. There really isn't one solution that is exceptionally portable to any other and experience is the best teacher. Cliff has pointed us to two areas in the Flexsim Help that are very useful for teaching us how to build GUIs and specifics about the different components of GUIs. I think that if someone were to read those two sections and combine that with some old fashioned Pirate ingenuity they could build just about anything they wanted to. If not you would at least be as good me. Brandon

I just made four video demos showing how to make a GUI in Flexsim.
How to make a custom Parameters window: http://screencast.com/t/MNmRdiSDhtP How to make a simple model control GUI and how to find and copy existing GUI's: http://screencast.com/t/XodfLbqeyQr How to use tabs: http://screencast.com/t/aTPoyrR1oW How to use buttons to execute code: http://screencast.com/t/I3auKLEq I attached the code I used. These should give you a good start into GUI building. Sorry it took so long. |

These videos are awesome. Thanks Alex! Jing is really cool too. They do all the hosting of the videos! Free for now, but we'll see what happens in the future. In the mean time, all of us should take advantage of the slick software they're providing for free.
Alex have you ever thought of going into show biz? (I hope not - just kidding) |

GUI Step Graph
Hi,
Could anyone help me to show the transpoter's utilization in my GUI as a step graph? Attached is simple model to explain what I have done so far. Every 5 sec, the model capture the utilization for the transporter and store it in to a global table. -- User Event In GUI, the table is shown and updated accordingly (every 5 sec) In GUI, I also wants to show the utilization value (y) vs. time (x). I tried to find a clue or steal(? ) some of setting from "Conents vs Time" graph. I think the viewfocus might be the key but don;t know exactly how I can make a series of data like stats_contentgraph attribute. Could anyone please help me to figure out what I missed? Thank you in advance. |

Thanks.. This is a wonderful thread
Thanks for the videos.. This is a wonderful thread. I hope you guys make videos about other stuff as well (specially Task sequences and related topics). Unfortunately flexsim's documentation does not help much and these videos are the best way to learn ..
