Default Making Objects Look Shiny

Make a surface shiny by giving it a specular highlight.

Specular highlights have 3 components:
  1. Specular color: the color that is reflected off the surface when a light hits it. It combines with the light’s color to determine the final color. If you want it to be shiny, use white. If you want it to not shine, use black.
  2. Specular level (also called Strength): how intense the highlight should be. Use a high value to make the shine brighter than the base, diffuse color. Use a lower value to make the base, diffuse color show through more.
  3. Gloss level (also called Shininess): what size the highlight should be. Add a higher gloss value if you want to make the highlight smaller so that it looks glossier.

AC3D lets you edit specular color and level. 3ds Max lets you edit all 3 values. I don't think you can edit any of them with Sketchup.

The .skp file format doesn’t contain any specular highlight information. You should use a good 3D format if you want specular highlights. I prefer fbx for FlexSim 7.7+ and 3ds for older versions.
