The Revit file option should probably be thought of as an FBX file format option rather than an RVT file format option. Here are some thoughts that Ted Moore from Haskell shared with me regarding the FBX format:
Our preferred format for most things is FBX. Incidentally, even Autodesk does not natively support RVT files. They hide the fact that they pretend to port it natively with a routine that converts it to FBX in the background very slowly. It is the best format in my opinion since it stores mesh, mapping, materials, and cached key framing. It is how we move data sets into and out of many squired Autodesk and non Autodesk products with the best results. Autodesk actually uses FBX between it’s own products and the release is always updated by both the importing and exporting application to be current. It’s a larger file, but it carries everything unlike DWG. This is important for my rendering and animation purposes. |
