BAP in FlexSim ?

I am asking about how to resolve a berth allocation problem in Flexsim CT ? It is introduced that flexsim can do a such resolution but in reality i am not able to find any information about it ? May be shall we create a separate module for it, but even that..can someone help me please ? and thanxxxx in advance

You can allocate the berth and crane in the berth planner window.

Or do you have another problem in berth allocation?

Hi...Yes i m using the berth planner object, for the crane, i understood that Flexsim CT has his own crane assignmenet algorithm but for berths what can we do ! BAP is how to assign ships to berths with minimizing the turnaround time (it s an optimizing problem). So, in the start of the entring the data, we dont know exactly what berths for what ships shall we use, and thus the ship schedule is not an entry...it should be a result...I am trying to find a help for that.

If you want to know how to assign ships to berth in order to minimize the turnaround time, your target is to get the optimized schedule of the ships and berth when you determine and know the berth capacity including crane capacity, yard truck, yard crane and other all terminal transporters with the yard lay-out etc.

Flexsim CT is simulator for finding the capacity of terminal with berth, crane and other transporters facilities in the port.
After determined the capacity of terminal including truck and crane quantity and others, you will be able to get ready to know the optimized schedule according to the ship size and the container quantity of it to be loaded/unloaded.


If you want to get easily and quickly your answer, I think it will be easy to use the scheduling software.

Many Thanks for your interest. My problem is just a berth assignmenet problem, I am not concerned by the other entities such yard and gate.
You spoke about a scheduling software ? Which one ? I am used to work with Matlab coding to develop an optimising tool for the problem, can we combine Matlab code and Flexsim ? Or may be Optquest can resolve the problem by creating the adequate variables in the model?

Berth assignment problem is berth planning one to make schedule the ship location and the duration.
The berth planning should be considered about ship length, arrival and leaving time of it and the loading/unloading quantities the containers.
And the duration time of ship is determined by the container crane capacity, yard trucks , yard transporters capacity and yard layout logistics etc.
So I know the berth assignment problem will be able to solved after all terminal facilities capacity is determined.
You can not solve berth planning problem without consideration of cranes and yard capacities etc. You can analyze only the ship's arrival time's probability function using mathlab. Does mathlab have the optimizing feature to allocate the resources like ship and berth?

If you will get the probability distribution of the ship and berth using mathlab, you can use the result of it in flexsim as ship schedule probability distribution.

The default probability distribution of ship arrival time in flesxim is exponential distribution as you know.
The default will be able to be changed to your analyzing and fitting distribution function as input.
Flexsim also has analyzing tool called 'ExperFit' not powerful than mathlab.
But ExperFit has the fitting feature from the raw data like mathlab.

Optquest is optimizing tool but used in general in order to get the yard truck quantity optimzed.

I am developping metaheuristics to solve Berth allocation and Crane assignment Problem.
