Default updated hardware req for Flexsim v5 please?

Cliff

Can you please publish the updated hardware specs for running Flexsim v5 for both Desktop as well as Laptop categories? It appears that there is no 'official' Flexsim release on this request in the forums other than the one above from you some 2 years ago.

Thanks

Default System Requirements / Recommendations

Here are the official Flexsim System Requirements:

http://www.flexsim.com/products/flexsim/#systemreqs

Because those requirements are a little vague, here are some of my own recommendations for those who need a little more direction:

CPU: Faster is better. 64-bit is preferable. The CPU mostly affects how long it takes to run a completed simulation model (a model that takes 15 minutes to run on a certain cpu may only take 10 minutes on a faster cpu).

OS: Windows 7 is preferable because it handles large amounts of memory very well (a model with hundreds of thousands of flowitems may crash on XP, but will run slowly without crashing on Windows 7). 64-bit is preferable if the cpu is 64-bit, but Flexsim runs in 32-bit mode either way.

RAM: More is better. Pretty simple.

Graphics cards are complicated:

Nivida cards: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_family.html
The cards are organized by quality left-to-right and top-to-bottom. (The top-left is highest quality. The bottom-right is lowest quality.) A card at the top of a series list is likely to be better than a card from the bottom of the series list to its left though (A GeForce 8800 GTS may be better than a Geforce 9300, and a GeForce 9800 may be better than a Geforce 210).

ATI cards: http://www.amd.com/us/products/Pages/graphics.aspx
Anything in that list except the "Embedded Graphics" should run Flexsim well. Again, these are sorted with the best on top. Within each link, the top cards are at the top. Also, a high-end card from one series list may be better than a low-end card from the series list above it (ATI Radeon HD 4890 may be better than ATI Radeon HD 5450).

I prefer Nvidia cards, but ATI cards should work fine with Flexsim version 5 or later. ATI cards had compatibility issues with older versions of Flexsim, but their newer drivers run newer versions of Flexsim fine.

The important thing about computer quality for Flexsim is the graphics card. A dedicated card will usually run Flexsim well. An integrated (or embedded) card will usually run Flexsim poorly. Almost all the cards on the above links (with the exception of Radeon E Series) will run Flexsim well on a laptop or a desktop.

Note: The Nvidia and ATI links are references as they were on 12 July 2010. They may be different in the future, but the concepts should be the same.
