Default Changing the color of a .3ds shape made with autocad

Hello,

I created my own shape with autocad. I use it for a task executer. However, it seems that I can't change the color of the TE anymore.

Is there a way to import a .3ds file from autocad and still be able to change its color?.

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,

You would be better off to import the shape into a product like AC3D and then export it as a wrl. Two reasons: first, it is well documented on how to make a wrl shape change color from within AC3D. Second, wrl shapes draw faster in Flexsim.

If this isn't an option then you can try putting the object that you want to change color in Flexsim at the front of the file (It has to be ranked first) and making sure that the object has no material or color associated with it. This may or may not work it has been a while since I've had to make any shapes.

And have a look at this thread on the forum if you haven't already done so:

This thread also discusses how to create a wrl file that has parts of it that can adopt the color of the object in Flexsim.

Thanks to all of you. That is great information. However, for some reasons, I can't buy AC3D. Thus, I decided to use different shapes and to change it with the command:
setobjectshapeindex(obj object, num index)

It also allow me to change the shape itself and not only just its color. It does a better job to represent what I want to show.

Alexandre,

If you have one object that is switching between shapes you might be better off to try using frames instead of different shapes. It is essentially the same thing but implemented differently.

To use frames you would name all of your shape files like the following:

MyShape.wrl
MyShapeFRAME1.wrl
MyShapeFRAME2.wrl

This way all of the shapes are automatically loaded with the initial shape. When you want to change shapes you call the setframe(current, framenumber); command. This is how the operator walks and takes on other shapes so you wouldn't want to do this with the operator because it is already changing its shape factors.

I'm not sure but this should be an easier and maybe faster way to implement what you are trying to do.
