Default Protecting your models from further modification.

To keep all the objects in a view window from being selected, open the side bar menu of the view window, and go to "View Settings" -> "More settings". Under the "Other" tab, check "Ignore Objects". This is a global setting for all objects in the view.

For a VisualTool object, in its parameter window, under the "Visual Tool" tab, there is also an option called "No Select". This option controls whether the VisualTool is selectable or not. Note that sometimes you may need to adjust the Z value of the VisualTool in order to select it in the first place for editing; otherwise, edit it through the tree view.

If you want to allow editing of objects in your model, but you do not want them accidentally repositioned, select the objects by shift-clicking a selection box around them (a red box appears around the objects), open the side bar menu of your view window, and go to "Edit Selected Objects". Select "Switches" in the option list, and click "Toggle Protect Object". This will switch protection of the objects on or off.

Default Model layouts

It's nice to be able to click Ignore Objects to protect your model from others but what about yourself?

Well, after having messed up my own models from incidental clicking we put the Model Layouts option in Flesim. It is located at the bottom of the tool bar on the left hand side of the ortho and prospective windows.

Adding a layout to your model will store the current location, rotation, and size of all of the objects in the model. To update the layout after making changes click the set button. If you accidentally move an object that you didn't want to move reselect the layout in the drop down list and it will reset all of the objects.

Using the layouts is a great way to keep more than one layout of your model (Thus the name). This way you can keep a version of your model that is based on real world dimensions and another that is demonstrative of the flow of the model.

Good Luck,
Brandon
