Cool How to validate the flexsim model

Hello! Everyone

As we know, simulation is the technique of representing the real world by a computer program representation of something.
When using FlexSim building a model, I try my best to make the model be closed to the real word.
What I want to know is that How to validate the model in order to represent the real word effectively and logically?
In other words, What extent can we claim our simulation model is close enough to the real systems?

For example, a customer has the following goals:
Firstly, the model must run fluently without blocking;
Secondly, the model should deal with all orders that are created every day;
Thirdly, we should ensure total output by improving unit area yield.

How to measure these customer’s requirements in FlexSim model?
Which statistics in dashboard do we often use to validate the FlexSim model ?

Thanks beforehand!

Hi jing,

Before building a simulation model the important thing is to prepare objectives to clarify what your simulation model wants to achieve .If we construct a model that constitute all particulars of the real world and build everything corresponding with your operation,then the model will become too complex and even it complicate the results.It is just enough to create a precise model considering as much information that is essential to accomplish your objectives. The goals should be for the model and not for the real world.

For example some one wants to know that throughput can be increased with the same resources deployed? How extent that batch size should be decreased that will reduce the amount of time spent in the process and decrease the lead time?There are even other factors you might consider like how to release the production orders and do we need to track the inventory of other material(brought from outside) other than the main product(build inside)? Is there human intervention that makes decisions?There are just a lot of factors that need to be considered yet to create a reasonable model that can solve a problem.

If you want to run different scenarios that might comprise variables like cycle time,nr of operators,breakdown time,batch sizes and inter-arrival time.You need to know what variables that you must consider.

About what statistics to choose, it is upto the modeler to decide what to choose that depends upon the objectives of the model?Good luck!:-)
